HOW TO VOTE IN PENNSYLVANIA

Request a Mail-in Ballot
Any voter in Pennsylvania can request a mail-in ballot. Just follow these steps:
- Click “Request a Ballot” below.
- Make sure to have your Pennsylvania Driver’s License ready. You must use it to apply.
- Complete all the steps required to submit your application.
Return Your Mail-in Ballot
Step 1: Complete Your Ballot:
- When you receive your mail-in ballot, fill it out, place it in the secrecy envelope, seal the secrecy envelope, place in the outer envelope, sign and date with the date you are filling it out, and seal the outer envelope.
Step 2: Return your ballot: There are three ways you can return your mail-in ballot in PA:
- By Mail: To return your ballot via mail, follow the steps outlined in the instructions provided with your ballot.
- In-Person at Your County Elections Office: To return your ballot in-person, you can visit your county election office. Click here to find your local office.
- At a Drop Box: Some counties may have drop boxes. Voters may return their mail-in or absentee ballot at their county’s designated drop box(es) or drop-off location.Check your county’s website for information.
- At an Official Satellite Location: Some county election boards might open satellite offices to offer county residents added convenience. These satellite locations may be open additional hours, including weeknights and weekends. Each satellite location has a secure ballot receptacle to store completed mail-in and absentee ballots submitted at the location. Check your county’s website for information.
- Mail-in ballots must be returned to your local county election office or other designated location. Mail-in ballots cannot be returned to your polling place. If you bring your entire mail ballot packet to your polling place on Election Day, you must surrender it and vote on the machine.
- No one can return your ballot for you. The only exceptions are if you are a voter with a disability and have designated someone, in writing, to deliver your ballot, or if you need an emergency absentee ballot.
- If you requested a mail ballot but did not receive it, or you do not have the ballot and outer return envelope to surrender at your polling place, you may vote by provisional ballot at your polling place.
Vote Early In-Person
In Pennsylvania, registered voters can request, receive, vote, and submit your mail-in or absentee ballot all in one visit to your county election office or other designated location.
IMPORTANT: Some counties may not have ballots available yet. Before you visit your local election office, check here to see if ballots are available.

Polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Election Day.
If you are in line at or before 8 p.m. (when polls close), you will be allowed to cast your vote.

First-Time Voter Information
The first time you vote, you must bring a photo or non-photo ID.
You may use one of the following forms of photo identification, so long as it is not expired, canceled, or revoked:
- Pennsylvania driver’s license or PennDOT ID card
- ID issued by any Commonwealth agency
- ID issued by the U.S. Government
- U.S. passport
- U.S. Armed Forces ID
- Student ID
- Employee ID
If you do not have a photo ID, you can use one of the following so long as it includes your name and address:
- Confirmation issued by the county voter registration office, such as a voter registration card.
- Non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth
- Non-photo ID issued by the U.S. Government
- Firearm permit
- Current utility bill
- Current bank statement
- Paycheck
- Government check
This requirement applies only for the first time you appear to vote in a particular election district/polling place. You will not have to show ID again unless you move and are assigned to a new polling place.
Other Helpful Information:

- Review the candidates and measures on the ballot and plan your votes in advance. You can find a sample ballot on your county election office website.
- If your name is not in the voter roster and you believe you registered to vote in your precinct, you may have the right to vote on a provisional ballot. Your vote will count if election officials determine that you are eligible to vote.

COUNTDOWN TO THE MAIL-IN REQUEST DEADLINE
The deadline to request your Mail-In Ballot for the General Election is on October 29th. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Take action and request your ballot today! Your request must be received by the county office by 5:00 PM.
JOIN THE ANNUAL MAIL BALLOT LIST
When you apply to be an annual mail voter, you will automatically receive a mail ballot for any election during that year and your county election board will send you a reminder every year to apply for mail-in ballots. A renewal request will be sent to you early February each year.
